Kintner Family History

Christian Kintner, son to German immigrants, was born in 1784 in Pennsylvania. In 1816, he and his wife, Elizabeth, loaded their covered wagon and headed west to Ohio. There they purchased a quarter section of land in Carroll County for $5/acre from the US government. They built a log cabin with a clapboard roof 3 years before the village of Centreville, now known as Carrollton, was organized.

In 1824, Jacob Kintner, one of ten children, was born. He later married Louisa in 1849 and they built a “fine brick residence” (the restaurant), on the same property – residing there until 1911.  The farm was then auctioned off following Louisa’s death.

From 1943 – 1964, the LePine family owned and operated the farm.

Hannon Family History

Richard and Joyce Hannon purchased the remaining 55 acres of the farm in 1972. They resided on the farm until 1987. In 1989, the Bluebird Tea Room was established. Over the next decade, several Pre-Civil war barns were restored and transformed into the following:

• Gift Shop
• A Private residence
• Susie’s Museum of Childhood
• Hannon Hall
• Joyce’s Garden Party Room

In 2003, construction began on the Bluebird Farm Amphitheater, including the addition of stairs and entrance roads. The Bluebird Farm Amphitheater grand-opened on May 12, 2007. Then, in 2008, Joyce Hannon donated the Bluebird Farm Park to the Carroll County Park District.
